The president of the European Commission released an action plan to reduce emissions and achieve climate neutrality. The European Green Deal offers a road map for efficient use of resources.
With regard to the transportation industry, EU freight traffic will shift from road to rail and therefore reduce GHG emissions by 90% in 2050.
According to FreightWaves, European highways have the highest degree of electrification. However, a shift of freight movement towards rail will most likely not happen soon as it required major investments in infrastructure. The system focuses on moving freight rather than people.
